Pertains to the claim of Robert McClanehan of Philadelphia to a tract of land stretching east from Lake Pepin in the "N.W. Territory." Now in Wisconsin, the land was given to Jonathan Carver in 1767 by the Dakota Indians; Congress in 1825 refused to recognize the grant. Includes a letter to McClanehan from Joel Thayer, dated 1816 Aug. 3, Philadelphia, stating Thayer's claim to the land.
